Eine Kakteenwelt

Auf dieser Seite möchte ich meine persönliche Kakteen- und Sukkulentensammlung vorstellen. Vorab möchte ich jedoch kurz erläutern, wie es zu dieser mittlerweile rund zweihundert Pflanzen großen Sammlung kam. Angefangen hat es bereits im Kindesalter mit dem Interesse an eher tropischen Gewächsen. So hatte ich sehr viel Freude daran, diese Pflanzen auf vegetativem Wege durch Stecklinge zu vermehren. Erst mit dem Alter kam vermehrt die Neugier an Kakteen und Sukkulenten. Erst Individuen der Kalanchoe (sowohl die schön blühenden, als auch das bekannte ‘Brutblatt’), Sukkulenten wie Yuccas, die ich generativ aus Samen gezogen habe und später kamen nach und nach blühfähige Kakteen hinzu. Die ersten Versuche, Kakteen erfolgreich aus Samen zu ziehen, schlugen kläglich fehl. Durch die sorgfältige Recherche in Fachliteratur und im Internet, kam ich an die für die Vemehrung aus Samen notwendigen Utensilien. Die Ergebnisse dieser Vermehrung, aber auch meiner Errungenschaften verschiedener Kakteenmessen, Kakteengeschäften etc., möchte ich hier nun präsentieren und einen kleinen Einblick in die schöne, wenn auch stachelige Welt der Kakteen geben.

On this page my private (and modest) Cacti collection containing about 200 different strains is presented. Some of these strains belong to Rhipsalideae (such as Rhipsalis, Lepismium etc.), others – and, most of my collection – to the Cacteae (e.g. Echinocactus, Mammillaria, …). Additionally, we find the Epiphyllum hybrids belonging to another tribe – namely the Hylocereeae; and the Echinopsis and Gymnocalycium in the Trichocereeae tribe. Especially this group aroused a great deal of interest in me and therefore I started collecting several indidiuals flourishing in so many different, marvellous colours. They all have in common that they are part of the subfamily Cactoideae (1 of 4 subfamilies of all Cactaceae), which is divided into 9 tribes.

Well, when did I start getting an interest in plants, especially in cacti? It all has begun at the age of 16 when spring, summer and winter were unusual warm and I haven’t had any holidays so far. Therefore I wanted to create my own “Paradise”. First I ordered seeds of Yuccas and other palms. After visiting several botanical gardens in North Rhine Westphalia, this increasing interest was the reason for adding the first cacti to my “Paradise”-collection. The pictures, which can be seen here, depict the result of this harmless “cacti mania”.
